AT HOME WITH JOSEFIN MEIHUA

We had the pleasure of visiting Josefin Meihua Lindberg, Interior Stylist at Fantastic Frank, in her beautiful Stockholm home to have a chat about her passion for timeless design, career path and secret shopping spots.

Hi Josefin! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born in China but have spent almost my entire life in Stockholm, Sweden. My passion for interior design has been with me since childhood. I enjoyed sketching houses and blueprints and always wanted to redecorate my childhood room. My career path has been quite diverse. I began freelancing as a photographer while studying at the University of Linköping. However, my passion for photography led me to pursue courses in PR and commercials at Stockholms University. This eventually led me to study Digital Creative at Berghs School of Communication, where I learned how to edit case films and developed a solid attachment to film editing. After working on commercials, social media films, shorts, and documentaries, I pursued my interest in interior design.

How and when did you get into interior design and styling?
After spending several years in the editing field, I found myself at a crossroads and decided to take on a receptionist job to discover my true career aspirations. I took some time to think things over and enrolled in an introductory styling course. I also reached out to people in the industry for guidance. At first, I assisted experienced interior stylists and landed a part-time job in the photo products and campaigns department at H&M Home. Later, I connected with Fantastic Frank and began styling with them while also working on other freelance interior projects.

Tell us about your home – what inspired you when creating a space for your family?
Our family resides in a century-old apartment located in the heart of Stockholm. Initially, we attempted to secure the condo one floor below ours but were unsuccessful. Finally, however, thanks to our broker, we were informed about the off-market availability of the apartment one floor above, which we could purchase. To achieve a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, we renovated the bedroom, kitchen, and living room with the help of my husband, Joel and his father. We hand-selected each piece of furniture and detail, opting for vintage, antique, or second-hand. Our goal was to create a warm and personalized home.

What are your current favorite interior brands should we look out for?
I have a fondness for Dusty Deco. Interestingly, my previous residence was a 35-square-meter apartment on Styrmansgatan in Stockholm, and my neighbour was the family behind Dusty Deco. So I often found myself peeking into their windows for inspiration.

Where do you get inspiration from?
When I'm at other people's homes, I love browsing through Hemnet and Pinterest. I've been collecting pins on Pinterest for a long time now.

What are some of your secret spots for interior shopping in Stockholm?
I can't keep a secret if I spoil it! Check out second-hand and vintage shops located outside of Stockholm.
