EUROPES HIPPEST INSIDER TIPS & SUMMER HOUSES 2019

Gotland, Mallorca, Piemonte or Skåne? We asked 4 locals about their hidden spots and what-to-dos. Get inspired, choose place and maybe buy a house?

gotland

Emma Jönsson Dysell is an architectural and interior photographer based on Gotland since 2016.

Best hidden swim spot?
Gotland is covered with amazing beaches and one of the best is Norsta Auren in the north of Fårö. But for a different experience a dip in the old limestone quarry Smöjen is recommended. It’s surrounded by a dramatic nature, ruins and windmills. Daredevil climbs into the old factory and jumps down into the water.

Most tasty dinner?

Vinäger is a little oasis in the middle of the medieval town of Visby.

Most worth visiting atelier?

Glass Studio Big Pink, Norrlanda. Jennie is a young glass blower with a rock n’ roll mentality, which makes everything she touches stand out. In the barn where the studio is placed is also Restaurang ROT, so combine a visit with lunch/dinner! For a unique experience, Jennie and Luqaz created the concept “food on glass” where all food is cooked in front of your eyes in the studio on melted glass.

Little extra:
Surflogiet 20 mins south of Visby with an atmosphere like in southern Europe. Eco burgers, SUP boards in the sunset, sauna and live music. Possible to sleepover in their “glamping” tents.

PIEMONTE

Nicola Norton is the owner of the handsome butter-coloured boutique hotel La Villa in Mombaruzzo.

Best spot to cool down on a hot Summer day?
The river just beyond Acqui Terme is a great place to stop, bathe and cool down.

Send me to a restaurant that will never make me wanna leave Piemonte!

Ciau del Tornavento (Michelin starred) with its great terrace to have a drink at followed by dinner in the restaurant. It also has an amazing wine cellar.

Light Summer wine from around the corner?
A sparking Barbera Rose from
Pico Maccario is fantastic. Light and fresh, it is like summer in a glass yet serious enough to drink with dinner too.

PS: Of course, for the first two questions my answer also has to be
La Villa, by its pool or in the evening at our restaurant with its beautiful sunset views towards the Alps. La Villa looks unashamedly romantic at dinner as the sun sets and it is one of my favorite spots in the world.

MALLORCA

Cat Amengual Adrover is a graphic designer and shop owner based in the creative heart of Mallorca, Felanitx.

Best fish around?
Sa Llotja, a bit more expensive but the fish is really good. And Can Bernat - ask for the fish of the day, fresh and good; if not, Gall amb ceba is really good there.

Most delicious cortado?
Mistral (Palma). In Felanitx it really depends who is in charge of the machine, I like the one in Can Moix when Miquel - the owner - is doing them.

What to do on a Sunday afternoon?

S'Embat and Mohai. Both are really cool chill out spaces, S'Embat is a bit hippier, but both are by the sea.

SKÅNE

Ulrika Bergenkrans is the owner of Österlenchoklad, a chocolate manufacture situated in Skåne-Tranås, creating chocolate varieties to die for: lavender, rosemary or apple pie. No wonder they deliver all the way to Japan.

Best spot for a sun-downer?
Ales stenar.

Secret restaurant tip?
Talldungen, Hörte Brygga.

Best loppis (Swedish for flea market)?
My favorite loppis, Karossgården i Gladsax has closed but apparently a good vintage/retro store there now. Otherwise Lundins Lada is also quite good.

Bonus: the secret/hidden ice-cream shop at Österlenkryddor has the best ice-cream around!

GOTLAND

AN ARCHITECT'S DREAM ON GOTLAND

Sweden I Gotland. Experience magical Gotland in this architect's house with many design highlights both inside and outside. Surrounded by Storsudret's unique barren landscape one can enjoy this house both summer and winter times. The central piece is the unique fireplace which perfectly connects dining and living area. Enjoy your breakfast on the generous patio providing a large dining area, barbecue facilities and a vegetable garden.

PIEMONTE

A 19TH CENTURY MANSION IN PIEMONTE

Italy I Piemonte I Asti. Time has stopped in this majestic villa situated in Incisa Scapaccino part of the province of Asti. The historic details, the preciously decorated floors and the perfectly preserved original marble allows one to travel back to the 1860s. The 2 ha (!) plot is ideal for people who want to take a deep breath and reconnect with nature: have a garden life, grow vegetables and make your own wine. The pittoresque old town of Nizza Monferrato is a 5 minutes drive away and Milan airport only 90 minutes.

MALLORCA

AN ART COLLECTOR'S PALAZZO ON MALLORCA

Spain I Mallorca I Felanitx. This extravagant townhouse "palazzo" impresses with ceiling heights of up to 10 meters, elaborated frescoes, exposed beams, sandstone walls and floors, as well as many other structural details of a typical Mallorcan palazzo. Before the renovation the approximately 300-year-old palazzo originally served as a classic bodega (wine store). The house offers an enchanted patio with pool, various terraces and a rooftop with a view over Felanitx all the way to the church and the surroundings. Felanitx is (still) a hidden gem on Mallorca and often referred to as the creative heart of the island. The beautiful coast town Portocolom with great beaches and restaurants can be reached in 15 minutes, Palma airport is a 35 minutes drive away.

8 rooms, 412 m², 1.250.000 €.

SKÅNE

A VILLA WITH 70 MAGNIFICENT TREES IN SKÅNE

Sweden I Skåne. The villa has its roots from the turn of the century and with a typical Southern Swedish character blended with an exotic touch of Italian influences. Situated in the middle of beautiful Österlen, it offers a manorial driveway surrounded by beautiful old trees. The garden with its patios, courtyards and the magnificent 70 trees is lushly beautifully nestled and thus provides a charmingly private and protected atmosphere. From here Malmö can be reached in one hour and Copenhagen airport in 75 minutes.

Stylist: Martin Nygren

13 rooms, 367 + 80 m², 7.629 m² plot, 565.000 €.
