We were instant fans of Porto-based architecture studio oitoo and their creative focus on the reuse and reactivation of unused commercial spaces into reimagined residential homes. For their latest project, close to Serralves park and Museum in Porto, they were commissioned to repurpose a ground-floor commercial space, built in 1996 and vacant for a quarter of a century. The result: a playfully designed 2 bedroom home with a private 30m2 garden in the centre of the city. 

Set on a secluded street, you enter the property through a burgundy covered porch, creating space and privacy from the street and a useful place to park a bike. The master suite, open-plan living area and kitchen are both at the rear of the property and open out onto a covered terrace and South-facing garden. Fresh pastel notes are picked up on picture window frames and in the powder blue kitchen, topped with Estremoz marble. The carefully considered and flexible layout also includes a second bedroom (which could also work well as a study), further bathroom and laundry area.
