CASA TÉRREA

One with the land, Casa Térrea sprawls within the Alentejo meadow that situates it.  

Designed by Bica Architects and constructed in 2019, Casa Térrea has all the consideration of a comfortable, modern, spacious home. Inspired by the colours of the surrounding landscape in the hot summer months, the project incorporates natural materials and a warm palette throughout the building. The interior and exterior walls are coated in a lime-based mortar, with a traditional curved tile roof, creating a harmonious whole. Cork insulation keeps the house naturally cool in summer and warm in the winter months. 

The living space consists of two wings, which in Moorish manner is interrupted by a patio with a fruit tree and a private pool. The first wing consists of 3 bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms, and fully-equipped kitchen; with the living and dining social areas in the second wing along with a covered patio. The two buildings are connected via a corridor that corresponds to the main entrance of the house, and via the adjacent courtyard. Warm wood adds the finishing interior touches. The living room has a wide window ledge that serves as a reading nook, and the property is available ready to move-in with Mobimetro custom cabinetry and furniture and Botaca beds and sofas.

The garden is fully irrigated and includes pomegranate, apple, orange, peach, and fig trees—which you can enjoy the sound of the neighbouring goat’s bleeting. Nearby is a charming village with a restaurant, small supermarket, and cafe you can walk to. 

Within a 10 minute driving distance is the town of Redondo, famous for its bi-annual Rua Florida's festival where the town is covered in handmade flowers. Within 20 minutes you have the option of the hilltop town of Arraiolos, Estremoz and its famous weekend antiques market, or the Unesco World Heritage city of Évora—set to be the European Capital of Culture in 2027. A little further east are the freshwater reservoirs and white sandy beaches of the upper Alentejo, which offer warm and safe water to swim.
