Haussmann is a recent renovation of a four-suite early twentieth-century apartment defined by proportion and scale. With 275 m² and ceilings reaching 3.6 meters, each room benefits from dimensions that are increasingly rare in central Lisbon. The layout takes advantage of this volume, creating clarity and balance, with circulation flowing naturally between rooms. Recognised as architectural patrimony of Lisbon, the building adds a layer of permanence to what is already a complete home on one of the city’s main arteries, just steps from Marquês de Pombal.
The apartment has been fully renovated, balancing restored elements, including original wooden floors, with contemporary updates. An elevator serves the building, air conditioning is integrated, and parking is available for rent in the adjacent property on the same block.
The living and dining rooms face the city and form part of the building’s Art Nouveau façade, with tall windows and a balcony overlooking Rua Braamcamp. From here, Lisbon reads with the depth of another era: ordered façades, mature trees, and the long perspective of the avenue. The living room connects directly to the dining room, creating a sequence of social spaces that feel open and resolved. Together with the kitchen, they form a coherent social core that works comfortably for hosting and for daily life, including a separate walk-in wine room.
A long corridor organises the private rooms. Two generous ensuite bedrooms sit along the way, one with a bathtub. Further along, a laundry room precedes two additional suites that open toward the garden at the rear. Large windows introduce greenery and quiet, creating a clear shift from the avenue-facing rooms. The principal suite, larger and filled with natural light, connects to a private balcony overlooking the garden, offering a softer atmosphere within the centre of the city.
The building forms part of the architecturally significant twin façades designed by Arthur Júlio Machado during Lisbon’s northward expansion in the late nineteenth century. Composed in a beaux-arts language with Art Nouveau detailing, the ensemble was classified in December 2024 as a Monument of Public Interest, recognising its architectural and urban relevance.
Rua Braamcamp forms one of the principal axes radiating from Praça Marquês de Pombal, anchoring the transition between Avenida da Liberdade and the residential grid of aristocratic neighbourhoods developed under a Parisian model of wide, tree-lined avenues and generous plots. The result is a district defined by architectural presence: garden palacetes, distinguished residential buildings and carefully composed façades that continue to give the area its measured urban scale.
Today, that same structure gives the address cultural weight and practical centrality. Marquês de Pombal functions as the hinge of modern Lisbon, connecting key parts of the city. Two metro lines intersect here, major arterial roads converge, and the airport is approximately twenty minutes away. Avenida da Liberdade, moments away, concentrates international fashion houses, flagship boutiques and cultural venues, reinforcing the area’s position as one of the capital’s most established urban corridors.
Within walking distance are Lycée Français, Jardim das Amoreiras, Príncipe Real and Estrela. It is a part of Lisbon where nineteenth-century urban ambition meets contemporary infrastructure, placing daily life at the centre of the capital rather than at its margins.
