Six Quick Ones with J. Mayer H.

Jürgen Hermann Mayer is the founder of the internationally renowned architectural practice J. Mayer H. In 1996, the firm saw the light of day. Since then they have attracted people from near and far thanks to their extraordinary shapes and responsive materials.

During our Art Basel showroom, J. Mayer H. was special guest and exclusively presented his collaboration with Fundamental. We got to talk to him for a few moments and he told us more about his favorite restaurants, furniture and the mystic AURA.

Please define your style (of working).

Quite often it's the detour where innovation happens.

Your dream property/interior to build or design? Or maybe you already did?

It's more about the energy between the client and us. And then we create dreams whenever these productive dynamics amongst all accomplices in a project happen.

Your current favorite restaurant in Berlin?

Do you want me to choose one out of Otto, Remi, Petit Royal, Grill Royal, Ernst, Funky Fisch or Paris Bar? I forgot Diener Tattersall.

Lately I am into weather apps.

Your favorite building in Europe!

We partnered with FUNDAMENTAL for a limited edition object named AURA. It is a miniature in brass of our project Metropol Parasol in Sevilla. Now you can even have a small version of it in your home.

Your one piece of furniture you take with you on every move?

I wish it would be the Vertebrae Chair by Oscar Niemeyer and French designer Pierre Vandel. Until then I always have pieces of the soft mosaic collection we designed for Bisazza around me.
