Living in a listed building: Newly renovated 5th-Floor apartment with elevator and balcony
INTERIOR
The apartment on the 5th floor of a listed building has been thoughtfully renovated, blending classic architecture with a calm, timeless design. The well-proportioned floor plan creates a clear spatial structure: a central hallway connects all rooms and incorporates built-in storage that remains elegantly discreet.
The living room faces southeast, with generous windows and an original French door opening onto a small balcony. From here, wide views extend over treetops and the distinctive architecture of Strausberger Platz. Light walls and soothing floors lend the space a quiet elegance.
The separate kitchen is designed in black, emphasizing clean lines and precise craftsmanship. A dining table fits naturally into the space. The white bathroom with bathtub features clear geometry and classic fixtures that echo the building’s historic character.
The bedroom faces the peaceful rear courtyard and benefits from large windows that let in abundant natural light. Original details such as Bakelite switches, classic radiators, and preserved fixtures remain visible, adding authenticity and charm.
Bright rooms, a clear layout, and a restrained material palette create an atmosphere that is open, elegant, and full of character.
EXTERIOR
The building forms part of the listed Karl-Marx-Allee ensemble and shapes the historic square at Strausberger Platz with its striking architecture. The bright glazed ceramic façade plays with light and perspective, while delicate mullioned windows, wrought-iron railings, and a clear vertical rhythm lend the structure refined elegance.
On the ground floor, arcades and rounded arches give the architecture a prestigious presence. The recessed entrance with original wooden doors and glazed side panels creates a welcoming transition that combines openness with solidity.
The staircase impresses with generous proportions, clear geometry, and carefully crafted details. Dark stone contrasts with light walls, the railing is finely profiled, and large windows provide abundant daylight. Preserved elements like wooden mailboxes, original hardware, and ornamental frames underscore the building’s authentic postwar modernist character.
LOCATION
The apartment is located directly on Strausberger Platz, at the heart of the Karl-Marx-Allee ensemble. Wide boulevards, mature trees, and clear urban lines shape its distinctive atmosphere. Despite the central position, the square remains calm and open.
The U-Bahn Berlin station Strausberger Platz (U5) is just outside the building. The main station is about 15 minutes away, and Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg can be reached in around 40 minutes.
Just a few steps away are Ristorante A Mano and Holzmarkt 25, a vibrant riverside quarter with cafés, restaurants, and cultural venues. For everyday needs, Blank Bakery and EDEKA Riebe are within walking distance. The Spree riverbanks and the lively neighborhoods of Friedrichshain and Mitte are close by, combining classic urban structure with a relaxed, open atmosphere.
