INTERIOR
Tucked within the storied grounds of Berlin’s Tacheles site, this exceptional loft in the LAIKA AM TACHELES - URANUS development offers a masterclass in bold, contemporary design. Conceived by the visionary architecture duo Brandlhuber+Muck Petzet, the apartment strikes a rare balance between raw materiality and refined living, where exposed concrete and sleek stainless steel meet warmth, light, and luxurious comfort.
The apartment unfolds with the quiet drama of a well-composed editorial - floor-to-ceiling windows invite natural light to pour into an expansive, open-plan space, while two generous terraces blur the boundaries between inside and out. At its heart: a sculptural stainless steel kitchen island, anchoring the living area with industrial elegance. It’s more than a kitchen; it’s a statement piece, framed by the subtle textures of the surrounding architecture.
This is a home designed for fluid living. A flexible layout - enhanced by movable architectural elements - allows the sleeping area to be either seamlessly integrated or elegantly concealed, depending on the mood or moment. Clad in calming Swiss pine paneling, the bedroom becomes a retreat in itself, quietly promoting rest and wellbeing through both scent and texture.
In the bathroom, a restrained palette meets striking design: deep blue Mutina tiles lend bold sophistication to a space otherwise defined by clean lines and curated details, including Laufen ceramics, a mirrored cabinet, and a generous walk-in rain shower. Underfoot, discreet underfloor heating ensures the space feels as good as it looks - no matter the season.
This is not just an apartment; it’s a contemporary sanctuary. Rooted in architectural integrity and elevated by thoughtful design, it offers a rare opportunity to inhabit a piece of Berlin’s cultural and architectural evolution - where art, history, and urban living converge.
EXTERIOR
Am Tacheles Laika redefines what’s possible on a challenging urban plot. Tucked into a narrow slice of land, bordered by a firewall and crisscrossed by access requirements - including a fire exit for a neighboring building - the site was initially zoned for commercial use and dismissed by developers. With limited usable ground floor space due to delivery and parking access, the plot seemed destined to remain unused.
Instead, architects Brandlhuber+Muck Petzet turned this overlooked void into an architectural opportunity. Their response: a vertical stack of compact, flexible residential studios tailored to Berlin’s growing demand for single-person housing.
True to their avant-garde ethos, the duo created a bold structure that commands attention. The building’s geometric form is accentuated by a richly textured material palette - Swiss pine, exposed concrete, glazed ceramic tiles, and gleaming stainless steel - all coming together to form a layered, expressive façade.
What could have been a constraint became a canvas. Laika now stands as a striking example of how design can transform even the most limited spaces into something extraordinary.
