INTERIOR
This penthouse stands out with its avant-garde architecture by Brandlhuber+ Muck Petzet, blending luxurious comfort with contemporary design. The expansive living, dining, and kitchen areas follow an open-plan layout, framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and open directly onto the generous roof terrace. A futuristic semicircular element partly shelters the terrace, giving it a distinctive, modern character while creating a protected outdoor retreat with sweeping views.
Inside, exposed concrete, aromatic Swiss stone pine, and brushed stainless steel combine to striking effect, balancing raw textures with a sense of warmth. A highlight is the bespoke walk-in wardrobe crafted from Swiss stone pine, which doubles as an architectural feature and infuses the apartment with its natural scent.
The designer bathrooms are fitted with walk-in rain showers, mirrored cabinets, premium Laufen ceramics, and deep blue Mutina tiles that add elegant accents and underscore the penthouse’s modern style. Underfloor heating runs throughout, ensuring year-round comfort.
The sleeping area is reached via a compact dressing room with built-in storage and an adjoining guest WC with a washbasin. The bedroom itself opens onto a private terrace, offering a quiet sanctuary. Currently, the sleeping area flows openly into the living space but can be separated with a wall (see “Alternative Floor Plan”) for added privacy if desired.
Overall, the apartment’s generous terraces and open layout create an airy, contemporary atmosphere.
Residents also enjoy access to the exclusive Health & Spa Club and the option to rent a secure underground parking space.
EXTERIOR
Laika am Tacheles is a striking example of how visionary design can turn even the most challenging sites into architectural landmarks. Hemmed in by a firewall, dissected by essential escape routes, and constrained by ground-level functions such as deliveries and underground parking, this narrow lot was long dismissed as unsuitable and was originally earmarked for commercial use.
Brandlhuber + Muck Petzet saw potential where others did not. Instead of leaving this urban remnant idle, they reimagined it as an innovative residential project: a vertical stack of compact, flexible studios — a bold response to Berlin’s growing demand for single-person living spaces.
Their signature avant-garde style is unmistakable in the building’s sculptural form and bold material palette: Swiss stone pine, raw concrete, glazed tiles, and stainless steel come together in a sensual façade that shifts between rawness and refinement.
What began as a structural constraint now serves as a showcase for forward-thinking design. Today, Laika is a prime example of how architectural gems can emerge from overlooked urban pockets.
LOCATION
Laika am Tacheles enjoys a prime address in Mitte, directly on Johannisplatz, surrounded by a lively urban scene. An array of dining options is just steps away: Bar Clara, inside the Fotografiska Museum, is known for its inventive cocktails and stylish atmosphere, while 136 Berlin Restaurant offers acclaimed European cuisine and impeccable service. Nearby, the Michelin-starred Rutz delights with innovative dishes and an impressive wine selection.
The location is exceptionally well connected. The U6 station “Naturkundemuseum” and the U8 station “Rosenthaler Platz” are within easy walking distance, as are the S-Bahn stations “Friedrichstraße” and “Oranienburger Straße.” Tram lines M5 and M8 stop at the nearby “Hackescher Markt.” Berlin’s main train station is about 10 minutes away by S-Bahn or U-Bahn, and BER Airport can be reached in around 30 minutes by public transport.
