INTERIOR
From the moment you approach the building, its striking design and exceptional craftsmanship make a lasting impression. This sense of quality continues inside the apartment itself. The living area is defined by a sculptural façade of aluminum louvers that wraps around parts of the floor-to-ceiling windows and the loggia, a design element echoed on the garden side of the building. One of the apartment’s most distinctive features is the sunken living lounge, a futuristic spatial concept that reinterprets the visionary Space Age design language of the late 1960s.
The exterior walls are largely composed of heavy glass panels set in anodized aluminum frames, offering views through the loggia to the garden and to the building’s equally sculptural opposite façade. Motorized, translucent exterior blinds help prevent overheating in summer. The open Bulthaup kitchen is understated in design, allowing the striking architecture to remain the main focus. If desired, an additional room can be sectioned off from the living area to serve as a study or guest room. All rooms face the quiet courtyard, creating a calm retreat in an otherwise vibrant location.
A door from the hallway leads through a dressing area into the well-proportioned bedroom and the spacious bathroom, which receives natural light through a discreet glass panel above the living room. The bathroom’s flowing curves, button tiles, and UFO-shaped recessed ceiling lights draw inspiration from Space Age aesthetics, complemented by harmonious Duravit sanitaryware and Vola fittings. A guest toilet is available, with a connection for the washing machine conveniently located in the hallway, and is designed in the same style as the main bathroom.
EXTERIOR
With this building and its dynamic envelope, completed in 2012, the acclaimed architect Jürgen Mayer H. made a bold architectural statement and created a distinctive landmark within Berlin’s urban landscape. The sculptural design of the suspended slat façade draws inspiration from the idea of landscape within the city, a theme that also shapes the graduated courtyard garden as well as the building’s silhouette and layout. The avant-garde façade stands out as a defining feature of the overall concept.
This dedication to exceptional design continues throughout the entire complex. A calm, carefully landscaped courtyard garden and the striking bamboo-planted atrium form a tranquil green core and lead to the rear section of the building, while the two naturally lit staircases carry the sculptural language indoors. Spacious, airy transitions to the exterior create an open residential feel in the middle of the city, and the varying heights of the building sections add an engaging sequence of spaces and perspectives.
