INTERIOR
Upper-class living from 1881 in just such an environment. 180 m² spread over the mezzanine floor with approx. 120 m² and the "basement" with around 60 m², with a room height of around 2.6 m and "real" windows on the lower level.
On the mezzanine floor there are four rooms, a kitchen/dining area and two bathrooms. The floor plan provides a differentiation between private and public areas by means of two corridors and the location of the two bathrooms in the rear part of the apartment.
From the kitchen/dining area an Art Nouveau steel spiral staircase leads down to the basement where there are two more bedrooms and a bathroom. This part has its own entrance, so that au pairs, young people, etc. can have their own kingdom undisturbed. The two levels could therefore easily be used separately from each other, especially since the lighting is excellent and the inner courtyard is beautifully landscaped and landscaped.
The mezzanine level boasts room heights of 3.7 m. Matching height and width windows and doors, some with double or single leaves. The new doors also take up the principle of panel doors. Originally preserved ceiling stucco, lovingly uncovered to make the unique shapes visible. Matching wooden floors are partly floorboards that have been sanded and varnished or panel parquet, also original, also prepared and varnished.
All the walls are smoothly plastered and laid out in white, as are the doors with the richly decorated door jambs and the windows with the rungs and window sills. A light, delicate beige appears on the fronts of the kitchen units from the Italian luxury brand Strato, on the stucco and the natural stone travertine. This reduction to white, beige tones and brown tones, through the wood of the floors, emphasizes the diverse and varied design language of this turn-of-the-century architecture (1900). Classy, representative, traditional is the credo for living in such buildings.
The conversions, especially in connection with the bathrooms, were proceeded with restraint. The focus was on functional aspects, which were implemented with high-quality materials, sanitary objects, fittings, etc., just like in the kitchenette.
No compromises were made in the design requirements on the lower level either. This part also radiates the same noblesse. An apartment that is unparalleled in terms of design. Respectful treatment of the old through maximum appreciation in the renovation, which is unmistakable here. Tactful, reserved but definitely luxurious renewal in the course of the refurbishment or renovation of the entire apartment. Charm, flair and ambience can be experienced here. In other words, what makes historical old buildings so special.
EXTERIOR
The building at Großbeerenstraße 55 is part of the Quartier Riehmers Hofgarten, a listed building ensemble. In 1881, Wilhelm Riehmer created the famous Riehmers Hofgarten, with many magnificent portals, handicraft elements and, above all, the Hofgarten that gave the name and identity. Riehmer's idea was to make living attractive for more demanding tenants by creating a garden, the so-called courtyard garden, by means of distances and facade designs. Neo-Baroque and Renaissance forms met the taste of the time. The magnificent facades facing Großbeerenstraße and Yorckstraße, where two atlases support the lower balcony above the courtyard entrance, are particularly striking.
A unique piece of successful building history was preserved in this way, where an unconventional idea for living in Berlin from 1881 is still convincing today or again today. The stucco facades with the triangular gables, semi-circular columns, etc. appear today in their splendor as pure luxury. The interior, the courtyard garden, can be reached via two pompous courtyard entrances, with lighting reminiscent of old gas lanterns. The courtyard garden consists of paths with front gardens, avenue trees and a green square with a meadow and trees. Enclosed from the outside by residential buildings, a shielded quarter has been created on the inside. The fact that this quarter has been preserved in this way is phenomenal. An address that stood and stands for building culture, tradition, innovation and good living, and which includes modern, metropolitan life. An ideal retreat in an urban environment.
LOCATION
We are located between Bergmannkiez (probably the most beautiful of all Berlin neighborhoods) and Viktoria-Quartier, where the popular Viktoriapark offers panoramic views over Berlin. Only a few meters away is the café Das Gretel, with delicious flat white, vegan croissants and a feel-good atmosphere. A few steps further lies Tupac, where creative South American meets crazy (natural) wines. You can go shopping either on Bergmannstrasse, in the Marheineke market hall or conveniently in the Rewe on Yorckstrasse (approx. 150 m). The Yorckstrasse S-Bahn and U-Bahn station is about a 10-minute walk away and the Mehringdamm U-Bahn station just under 7 minutes. You can reach the main train station in 12 minutes and BER in around 30 minutes.
