INTERIOR
The mere sight of the magnificent, richly decorated Wilhelminian-era building arouses curiosity about the apartments that lie behind it, and this attic apartment exceeds all expectations.
The entrance area is lit by daylight through a skylight and the floor is covered with antique Hungarian Orosháza concrete tiles. The custom-made built-in cupboards offer plenty of storage space. The server cabinet for LAN connections to all rooms is also hidden inside.
From the entrance you can access the public area on one side and the private retreat rooms on the other.
Several functional units merge together in the spacious living area. The carpenters from Bartmann Berlin have made optimal use of the kitchen space and created a lot of space with cupboard space under the stairs to the roof terrace. The kitchen is equipped with premium products from Gaggenau, Neff and Berbel. A Grohe Blue drinking water treatment system is also available. The dining and living areas are adjacent to the kitchen. The standing windows to the 37m² terrace in front and 12 Velux windows ensure optimal lighting and sunshine. The external, light-transparent shading can be controlled via a remote control. The terrace is sheltered from the wind between the surrounding roofs.
Between the kitchen and dining room, set back slightly, is the cozy library with a custom-made cherry wood bookcase. The study, which can be closed off by two internal sliding glass doors, is also connected to the kitchen on the street side.
The staircase mentioned above leads to the fantastic 115m² on-top roof landscape, which sets standards and offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire city. It is the highest terrace for miles around. The elegant railing on the street side was elaborately reproduced in accordance with the historical specifications. A 58m² sail, which can be opened, lowered diagonally towards the west and closed by remote control, enables this private outdoor area, which is exceptionally large for inner-city conditions, to be used as a summer living room even on very hot days.
In the private wing of the apartment there are four well-proportioned bedrooms, all of which are equipped with blackout blinds. The large bathroom has a free-standing bathtub and a double shower. All bathrooms have custom-made mirrors with LED lighting and high-quality sanitary ceramics with Steinberg fittings.
All rooms in this wonderful apartment are heated by an autonomous gas boiler with internet access via underfloor heating. The white-lacquered wooden paneled doors integrate the aesthetic taste principles of the time when the building was built into the newly created apartment on the top floor, the Gropius door handles represent the first step from the Wilhelminian era to timelessly elegant modern design.
EXTERIOR
Gneisenaustrasse is a street in Kreuzberg that stretches from Mehringdamm to Hasenheide. In the middle of the street runs a wide route lined with bushes and trees. There is a row of avenue trees directly in front of the houses.
There are several historic buildings on Gneisenaustrasse that are now listed buildings, including number 51. It has the typical features of Wilhelminian-era architecture: 4-storey row edge development, perforated facade with high-standing window formats, lattice windows, symmetrical building body with risalit-like projections consisting of bay windows and balconies, etc.
The lavish facade decoration made of stucco elements is impressive, showing how historicism was based on the various eras of building history: balustrades on the balconies, wall protrusions reminiscent of stone blocks and decorative elements around the windows. The highlight is the broken gable with the oval window that protrudes into the roof space. A typical building element from the Baroque period. The strongly shaped eaves cornice matches this.
The delicate beige tone highlights the variety of the design language. The framing of the entrance with the 3 steps is impressive, which conveys a feeling of grandeur when entering.
This variety and the attention to detail with reference to the building's history are impressive.
This experience continues inside, where marble as a parapet and steps truly shines in its striking structures.
The floor laid in a checkerboard shape like a mosaic is also beautiful. Stucco as a ceiling frieze and wall template also contributes to the great ambience, which continues in the staircase. The wooden handrail, the balustrade-like railing bars or the massive, double-leaf, cassette-like apartment doors document craftsmanship at the highest level.
All historical elements have been lovingly restored and are now shining in their former glory. You can experience architectural culture in its most beautiful form here, combined with perfect modern contemporary architecture and interior design of a special kind.
LOCATION
Some people call the Bergmannkiez the heart of Kreuzberg, because here you can find beautiful old buildings, hip cafes, a little junk and lots of food. From Monday to Saturday you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, cheese and other regional delicacies in the Marheineke market hall, around a 7-minute walk from the apartment. On the adjacent Bergmannstrasse you can stroll past the boutiques and of course also shop. Afterwards you can enjoy a delicious ice cream at Vanille & Marille on the way to the beautiful, green Viktoriapark. And of course there are cafes en masse, this is where the real cafe culture actually emerged: be it the Cabana Coffee Roasters, Barcomi's coffee roastery or Chapter One Coffee.
If you really want to get away, you are ideally connected via the Südstern subway station, several bus lines from Gneisenaustr./Baerwaldstr. or one of the many car sharing offers. This means you can reach the main station in around 15 minutes and the BER in around 30 minutes.
