INTERIOR
The complete renovation of the building at Christinenstrasse 1 was finalized in 2022, resulting in a beautifully designed apartment on the 3rd floor. This unit is easily accessible via an elevator that stops on all landings.
With remarkable ceiling heights of 3.58 meters, the apartment covers 59 m² and boasts an interesting floor plan. The hallway features a kitchenette with built-in furniture and cupboards extending to the ceiling. A frosted glass door to the bathroom and two historic mullioned windows in the living room allow natural light to illuminate both sides of the kitchenette, which extends into the living/dining area.
A historic, double-leaf door from the living/dining area leads to the bedroom, which has a new west-facing balcony.
The design concept of this apartment is particularly exciting, combining sophisticated, modern design with historic elements. Luxury fittings from the Danish manufacturer Vola meet the highest designer standards. The design philosophy: less is more.
Door jambs and door leaves, with their deliberate paint residue, offer a rough design language and patina that emphasize the elegance of the smooth, shiny surfaces, highlighting them further.
In the bathroom, custom-made, delicately colored ornamental tiles by Golem create a beautiful ambiance that echoes historicist design. A stylish, free-standing bathtub by Rexa with a brass wall-mounted tap from Vola skillfully contrasts with this.
This mix of old and new, elegant and rustic, ultra-modern and historic, is characteristic of this apartment. The sophisticated color scheme also matches this blend. Sandy tones dominate the walls, ceilings, and fixtures. The dark floorboards harmonize perfectly with this, as do the stone slabs on the kitchen counter with their iridescent beige-grey-brown tones. The delicate turquoise in the bathroom was precisely matched to the tiled floor.
The interior architecture and design are the result of a thoughtful overall concept, making the apartment functional, tasteful, and aesthetic. The result is a gem for those with special tastes.
EXTERIOR
Christinenstraße is located in a historic quarter, seamlessly connecting Prenzlauer Berg with Mitte. House number 1 is situated near Torstraße, one of Berlin's most vibrant areas teeming with a variety of stores, bars, and cafés.
Built in 1872, the building underwent extensive renovations, completed in 2022, which restored its original charm.
The exterior boasts an elegant and sophisticated appearance with light-colored paint and a neoclassical façade featuring plaster flaps and horizontal friezes.
Inside, the building preserves the period aesthetics with a harmonious palette of pale blue, dark blue, and white-gray. The wooden balustrade with turned bars and the ornamental tiles in the entrance hall are visually striking. The elevator ends at bright landings illuminated by corner windows.
LOCATION
The neighborhood is characterized by its Wilhelminian-style buildings, all meticulously renovated. Contemporary architecture, like the Tchoban Foundation building next door, integrates seamlessly with the historic surroundings, creating a blend of old and new.
The cobblestone streets and nearby Teutoburger Platz add to the charming ambiance, inviting people to spend time outdoors. Soho House and Pfefferberg are also just a short walk away.
The area is well-connected by subway and tram from Rosenthaler Platz (12 minutes to the main station), Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, and Alexanderplatz (27 minutes to BER airport).
