INTERIOR
Living with the advantages of Wilhelminian style apartments paired with the design principles of classic modernism of the present - this impression arises directly from this apartment.
On 119 m² there is a bedroom, a very large living and working area and a very spacious kitchen/dining area. A large hallway opens up these rooms, as well as the daylight bathroom with bathtub, shower, toilet and washing machine space.
The room heights of 3.70 m are impressive. The lattice windows match in height and width. The rhythm as a single or double-leaf window or glass door also reflects the creative rigor with which the master builders proceeded at the time. These historic room proportions were implanted in avant-garde interior design from the beginning of the 21st century - uncompromisingly down to the last detail. Particularly striking are the high, specially made doors with their door frames, everything made of oak, completely smooth, single-leaf, double-leaf, no frills with a matching transition to the baseboards. The oak floorboards (laid in 2001) in all rooms create a connection between old and new.
A similarly consistent design is experienced in the bathroom. Sky blue glass mosaic tiles on the floor and walls, with white sanitary ware. Here you can already see the Who's Who of the designer world. Window handles by Jasper Morrison, toilet and washbasin fittings by Philipp Starck etc. Design awareness can be experienced here every day.
A special highlight is of course the kitchen. Grass green car paint combined with specially manufactured door handles made of stainless steel. The rhythmically arranged spherical lamps above the central counter are also impressive. Design awareness also with the gas hob from Smeg and the oven (also from Smeg).
A design concept that is second to none, which also includes the custom-made cabinet elements in the hallway and bathroom, matching the style and material of the doors and door frames.
The connection between historic rooms and contemporary interior design, combined with the most modern design that has meanwhile become classic, has succeeded perfectly. The most beautiful room proportions, restrained installations and conversions, color accents in the kitchen and bathroom. Masterful in the result with a special flair.
OTHER
Solid oak floorboards were laid completely without thresholds in all living rooms. The floor lamps are controlled via the light switches and there are dimmers in all rooms. All walls have been plastered and painted white. There are two spacious built-in closets in the hallway and the bathroom (carpenter's work) and in the bathroom there is additional storage space behind the mirrored front, underfloor heating and a duo bathtub. The objects and fittings come from Philippe Starck and Dornbracht. In the kitchen there is a floor tank with water and electrical connection, which can be completely closed by the prefabricated floorboard.
An underground parking space at number 15 is available as an option for EUR 65,000. In addition, a separate cellar with a separate extract from the land register can optionally be purchased for 12,000 euros.
If necessary, another bedroom could be created behind the kitchen. See alternative floor plan.
EXTERIOR
The house on Alte Schönhauser Strasse in Berlin Mitte was built in 1887. As part of the Spandauer Vorstadt building ensemble, it is a listed building. In 2001 it was completely renovated, with a combination of old and new being created. With the construction and extension of the roof, a sign was set that tendencies of sophisticated contemporary architecture were implemented in the building, while the structure of the ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor was retained. This is how the perforated facade and linear glass band now contrast. The colors are limited to sandy shades, light beige-grey and almost white. It gets lighter from bottom to top, similar to the colors of the window frames.
Inside you can experience the preserved historical ambience. In the entrance you will find terrazzo in different colors processed into an ornament. Decorative forms such as stucco as door frames or small wall templates are also found on the walls. The stairwell was also perfectly renovated. Here historical elements such as lattice windows meet modern solid wood steps, filigree steel railings and striking, royal blue parapet color with a high gloss. Above that, everything is matt white.
The transition to the inner courtyard shows the perfection with which planning and work was carried out. Windows with stucco, friezes, plaster frames, etc. have been perfectly repaired and shine in white. The garden design was also planned down to the last detail. A central path in the middle, a roundabout with exits to the side wings, shrubs at regular intervals and post lights characterize the orderly appearance. Design from a single source down to the last detail, inside and out. Tasteful, aesthetic, sophisticated. Anything that pleases the eye; a small design oasis.
