Six quick ones with Seamus Kowarzik

Seamus Kowarzik studioThe Berlin-based architect Seamus Kowarzik designs furniture, interiors and architecture; putting a high emphasis on texture, choice of materials, proportion, and light.

Besides answering our favorite six we are happy to plan a villa (Forest House by the River) in Hamburg together with Seamus.

Fantastic Frank: Hello there Seamus, super nice to have you and ask you our beloved six quick ones. First of all, please define your style of work!
Seamus Kowarzik: The existing site or building is always the starting point for a new project. Proportions of the spaces, how they are illuminated and the palette of materials we choose are also fundamental to how we work.

FF: Your dream interior to furnish? Or maybe you already did?
SK: Designing my own studio space was definitely an aspiration and was lucky to have done that here in Berlin. The space was converted from a disused bakery. The oven we removed was the size of a small house.

FF: Your current favorite restaurant (in Berlin or somewhere else in the world)?
SK: If I have to pick one I would say ‘Engelbecken’. Great food and lovely setting.

FF: Your favorite app!
The app that I use by far the most is 'The Guardian’ so I guess it’s that one.

FF: Your favorite building in Europe!
SK: Tricky! I love the structure and atmosphere of the Nordic Pavilion in Venice by Sverre Fehn.

FF: Your one piece of furniture you take with you on every move?
SK: It would have to be the Wishbone Chair I have by Hans Wegner. It’s perhaps a bit over used these days but still a classic.
