Meet the owners of Villa Weiherfeld

We sat down with the owners, Beate und Oliver Dietz, in their beloved "Villa Weiherfeld", which is now for sale. They found their family home there 18 years ago and are now dedicating themselves to a new housing project after their children have moved out. From their living room, accompanied by their dog Lucy, they go back in time and share how they came to know and love the idyllic property.

What kind of feeling did the house evoke in you when you first entered?
In 2005, we were looking for a suitable house to provide a harmonious and positive environment for our boys, Maximilian and Jonas, who were 5 and 3 years old at the time.

The house "flashed" us at first sight after a long search. The blooming lavender in front of the house and the fantastic view from the terrace were phenomenal. From the garden, you could hear the distant sound of the swimming pool and it felt like living at the beach!

What makes the living experience in this house special for you?
It started with the previous owners, a very friendly family who had also lived in this house with their three children. We believe that a house can have a positive or negative atmosphere, and here it was overwhelmingly positive, which encouraged us to take this step.

The living experience is greatly influenced by the living and dining room area. It is where we spend most of our time and enjoy the magnificent view. The division of the house into a main and secondary area allowed us to live together optimally. The children had their own rooms and retreats, and we had our separate spaces too.

The parent's area, with an additional terrace and a pleasant coolness in the summer, creates an absolute sense of well-being. We have always enjoyed sitting there, enjoying the garden and the tranquility.

Describe your perfect day at home:
For me, the daily commute to Schwalbach im Taunus, towards Frankfurt, was always part of my work routine. However, the evening return journey was a daily highlight. In the summer, you could feel it getting cooler and fresher, with the Taunus air wafting around you. It was an ideal way to end the workday.

The house and its surroundings, the neighbors, the initial acquaintances and now the many friends in Schloßborn, always felt like coming home in the literal sense. Strolls through the village, with or without a dog, always turned into encounters with many friends who were also taking walks. Through the children and just in general, we have formed many friendships in Schloßborn, which we will continue to nurture.

The living room quickly integrated with the garden through the large terrace door. We often have friends over, barbecue, have fun, and I can play the guitar calmly (even loudly) without bothering anyone.

In winter, the fireplace was frequently used to create even more cozy atmosphere. The spacious living room provided ample space for playing with the children or watching TV.

Your insider tips for Schloßborn and the surrounding area:
Oh, there's a lot. It takes exactly 2 minutes on foot to reach the swimming pool. In the same amount of time, you can be in the forest. Extensive walks to Glashütten, Fuchstanz, Kleiner Feldberg, or Großer Feldberg are also possible.

On the other hand, Butznickel is much closer, as well as the meadows of Dattenbachstraße, a picturesque spot with trees that host mistletoe.

The schools and kindergartens are exemplary, as well as the wonderful daycare center.

There is a small museum in the village and many local festivals. A walk through the meadows "Auf der Platt" in Glashütten is highly recommended, with or without a dog. And as mentioned the adorable local swimming pool is just a stone throw away. Always a great option to cool down there during hot summer days.

Where did you find inspiration for the interior and garden design?
The garden was professionally designed with the help of a garden planner and a suitable company that carried out the implementation.

It was important to us to preserve the view of the village while leveling the property to make better use of it. We wanted a large garden that required manageable maintenance. Therefore, we have a robotic lawn mower and an extensive irrigation system. Everything is integrated with high quality and controlled via smartphone.

The garden should provide places of tranquility, which is why we have the Heaven Swing swing with a view of the beautiful house. Both terraces have full-size awnings that are adjustable over the entire terrace area. They are also set high enough as my husband is 1.94m tall!

Regarding the interior, furniture stores like Spielmanns and Leptien have been by our side.
