While international attention tends to focus on Lisbon and Cascais, we've been getting increasingly intrigued by a sweet spot in between the two: under the radar Oeiras. Specifically, the charming historical town centre with its traditional covered food market, pastelarias, gelato shops and delis. A 10 minute stroll to the beach, a 20 minute riverside train ride to Lisbon and Cascais and within 15 minutes of 5 of the Top International Schools in the area, this neighbourhood offers both great quality of life and investment potential.
It is here that we find a 2-bedroom duplex apartment in the dusty pink palacete, overlooking a little green square and a 19th-century church. Dating back to the 1920s, the building has been fully renovated and the apartment includes a garage, private outdoor space, a veranda and access to a lush shared garden and pool. The architectural design, by Data Atelier, marries the period charm of the original building through a grand entrance and high ceilings with a light and contemporary feel.
A warm palette, the use of natural wood and large pivot windows create light and welcoming living areas with open kitchen islands in lioz stone. The 2 bathrooms feature underfloor heating and handmade azulima tiles.
One of our favourite parts of the project is the attention that has been paid to landscape gardening. "During construction you often damage nature and the site had a beautiful garden when we discovered it. We've been dedicated to working with the landscape team to recreate a beautiful green space" explains the architect behind the project.
